Five Great Tracks – The First One

With the premier of Apple’s PING social network, there is a sudden renewed interest in sharing music tastes and recommendations. Right now, Ping’s options are rather limited, and doesn’t allow for free-form commentary unless you write a review.

The solution: share what I like here, with whatever thoughts or comments that come to mind. Album recommendations are a challenge because you have to go listen to samples of each track to decide if you like what you hear, so I’m going to offer up suggestions of favorite music five track at a time. If you decide you like what you hear, you’ll spend $5 to pick them all up and add to your collection, rather than having to decide if you want to buy whole albums at $9.99 each. I’ll put links in to both iTunes and Amazon whenever possible, or tell you where you can find the music. Otherwise, what would be the point?

What you’ll find in these entries will be whatever has crossed my playlists that week. While my tastes tend to run in a few directions, there will be surprises along the way. Old new, plugged or unplugged, everything is fair game. Don’t look for any rhyme or reason because there won’t be any, other than that these are…well…five great tracks.

The First Five Great Tracks

Kix – Book to Hypnotize
Kix – Book To Hypnotize on Amazon

Any list of my favorite tracks is going to start with something by Kix. Yes, I’m biased because I know them, but they have been and are still one of the best live bands you will ever see. They’re history is long, but if you get a chance to see them in concert, don’t miss it. Hardly a nostalgia act like many of their peers, Kix is still a fire-breathing rock ‘n roll machine that can’t be beat.

Book to Hypnotize is still one of my favorite Kix tracks; not as up-tempo as many of their offerings, is as good a place as any to introduce you to this terrific band.

Aerosmith – Nine Lives

A raucous track that never got the attention it deserves, this is a great opening song to the album that is best known for Pink.

Deep Purple – Rat Bat Blue

Great track that shows off the talents of every member of the band.

Sammy Hagar – Mas Tequila

One of the truly great party songs by one of the truly great vocalists. Enough said.

Lullacry
Lullacry – Pitch Black Emotions

This popped up in my Pandora stream and I was hooked. Appears that you can’t buy the album at the moment (if you find out where you can, let me know), but you can play the track on the band’s MySpace page or on YouTube.
